Social Psychology Section Awards

 

The Section has established three awards: PhD Award (annually), Mid-Career Award (awarded biennially), and Award for Distinguished Contribution to Social Psychology (awarded biennially). Details of the current award holders are given below.

 

Nominations Invited

 

Nominations are invited for BPS Social Psychology Section Award for Distinguished Contribution to Social Psychology. The award is given in recognition of a distinguished contribution to social psychology over the duration of one’s career. The deadline for nominations has been extended to 15th March 2012, and the recipient will provide the Distinguished Contribution Award lecture at the Section’s 2012 conference. The BPS Social Psychology Section Committee also invite nominations for the Section’s 2012 PhD Award, awarded for outstanding research derived from a doctoral thesis in social psychology. Nominees must have completed their PhD no earlier than 15th January 2010, and the recipient of the Award will receive £200 and be invited to give a talk at the 2012 Section conference. The deadline for nominations has been extended to 15th March 2012. The full rules of the Award can be found here.

 

Current Award Holders

 

PhD award

 

The Social Psychology Section Committee is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2011 Section PhD Award is Dr David Novelli, for the following paper:

Novelli, D., Drury, J. & Reicher, S. (2010). Come together: Two studies concerning the impact of group relations on personal space. British Journal of Social Psychology, 49, 223-236.

Dr Novelli's Award lecture and presentation will take place at the Section's 2011 Annual Conference in Cambridge.

 

Mid-Career award

 

The Social Psychology Section Committee is pleased to announce that the winner of the inaugural Mid-Career Award is Prof. Liz Stokoe. Prof. Stokoe's Award lecture and presentation took place at the Section's 2011 Annual Conference in Cambridge.

 

 

Distinguished Contribution award

 

The recipient of the Social Psychology Section's inaugural Distinguished Contribution Award is Prof. Mick Billig. Prof. Billig received his award at the Section's 2010 Annual Conference in Winchester, at which he was also a keynote speaker and the subject of a specially convened symposium to mark his retirement.

The Section will next make a Distinguished Contribution Award in 2012.
