British Psychological Society Social Psychology Section
PhD award: Rules
The BPS Social Psychology Section Committee invite nominations for the Section’s 2012 PhD Award, awarded for outstanding research derived from a doctoral thesis in social psychology. Nominees must have completed their PhD no earlier than 15th January 2010, and the recipient of the Award will receive £200 and be invited to give a talk at the 2012 Section conference. The deadline for nominations is 15th January 2012. The full rules of the Award are as follows:1. The award is given for outstanding research derived from a social psychological doctoral thesis, and is determined by the submission of a single published paper based on the doctoral research. Papers in press and published online in advance of final publication are counted as published for the purpose of the award.2. Nominees must be members of the British Psychological Society, Social Psychology Section.3. Nominations should be accompanied by two supporting statements illustrating the originality and significance of the research. These may be from the supervisor, external or internal examiner, or any other individual who is able to comment on the quality of the research. The sole exception to this is that the nominee cannot provide statements in support of their own nomination.4. The deadline for nominations will be 15th January each year.5. Nominations must be received within two years of successful completion of the doctoral thesis (i.e., successful completion of the viva voce examination and any required corrections). For example, for nominations for the 2012 prize, the PhD must have been completed no earlier than 15th January 2010.6. The award will be judged by the Section Committee. Committee members must declare any conflict of interests prior to participating in the decision making process. The Committee’s decision is final.7. The Section Committee reserves the right not to make an award in any given year if it judges this to be appropriate.8. Nominations should be sent by email to the Hon. Secretary, Dr Stephen Gibson (s.gibson@yorksj.ac.uk). Nominees should email a typeset copy of the paper (in PDF format), together with notification of who will be providing their supporting statements. If a typeset copy (i.e. the final published version or page proofs) is not available, then nominees should forward notification of the article’s acceptance to the Hon. Secretary. Supporting statements should be emailed independently by the individuals providing the statements, with a clear indication of the name of the nominee and title of the paper they are supporting.9. The award will be made on an annual basis at the Section conference. The recipient will receive £200 and will be invited to give a talk at the Section conference in the year of their award (usually early September). |
