BPS Social Psychology Section Award for Distinguished Contribution to Social Psychology:

Call for nominations

The BPS Social Psychology Section Committee invite nominations for the Section’s 2012 Award for Distinguished Contribution to Social Psychology. The deadline for nominations is 15th March 2012, and the recipient will provide the Distinguished Contribution Award lecture at the Section’s 2012 conference. The full rules of the Award are as follows:

1. The award is given in recognition of a distinguished contribution to social psychology over the duration of one’s career. Recipients may be of any nationality but must currently be working in a UK institution.

2. Nominations should be accompanied by a supporting statement outlining the significance of the nominee’s contribution. This may be from any individual who is able to comment on the contribution of the nominee. The sole exception to this is that the nominee cannot provide a statement in support of their own nomination. Nominations can only be made by Section members, although nominees do not need to be Section members.

3. Previous recipients of the award are not eligible for nomination.

4. The award is made biennially.

5. The deadline for nominations will be 15th January in the year of the award.

6. The award will be judged by the Section Committee. Committee members must declare any conflict of interests prior to participating in the decision making process. The Committee’s decision is final.

7. The Section Committee reserves the right not to make an award in any given year if it judges this to be appropriate.

8. Nominations should be sent by email to the Hon. Secretary, Dr Stephen Gibson (s.gibson@yorksj.ac.uk). Nominators should seek the consent of the nominee before nominating them. Supporting statements should be emailed by the nominator to the Hon. Secretary with a clear indication of the name of the person they are nominating.

9. The recipient will give a talk at the Section conference in the year of their award (usually early September).
